Summary0001308: unable to open files from windows on OSx
DescriptionI am unable to open alignment and tree files in my Mac that were created on a PC. This seems like a bit of a problem for labs that want to use your software and have a mix of operating systems in use. I haven't looked into whether folks have 'hacked' this problem but figured it is worth reporting in case you can fix it in the beta version before release.

Best,
Michelle
Steps To Reproducedownload .mas and mtsx files sent from student
open MegaX
click "open a file/session"
try to open either .mas or .mtsx file
click "analyze" (or "align", both were tried)
Get error "Incompatible session file: The file was created with a Windows 64-bit operating system and this is a MacOSX 64-bit operating system"
Or it crashes after giving a similar error.
Additional InformationI am looking into if she can export the file in another way in which it will be compatible across platforms. Hoping there is at least an option there.

Send Dr. Kumar\'s answer to user:
\"Dear Cizkova: The n/c appears because the codon has only 0.33 synonymous sites, and MEGA tries to guard against less than 1 total site cases. The upcoming beta version of MEGA5 will remove will remove this restriction. Please wait for that version.
Best wishes,
Sudhir Kumar\"

Hi Michelle,

I am writing in response to your question regarding the MEGA software. Unfortunately, the MEGA session files are binary files and are not portable across operating systems. MEGA was originally written to run on 32-bit Windows systems only (the previous mac versions were Windows applications running with the help of emulation/virtualization software). As a work around, you can save the files in the different text formats which are portable across operating systems. So instead of saving to a .masx file you can export an alignment to a .fas or .meg file. And instead of saving a tree to a .mtsx file you can export it to a .nwk file.
